The Dimlux Plant camera is a revolutionary device that accurately reads leaf temperatures at the level of the plant's branch arch so that the information can be fed back to the Dimlux Maxi controller .

This information is then used in conjunction with measurements of room temperature and humidity to calculate and display the level of vapor pressure deficit (VPD) - a measurement that describes the potential of the surrounding atmosphere to remove water from plants through transpiration . The higher the VPD reading, the greater the pressure deficit between your plants and the surrounding air.

The question is : Why do we even need to measure the temperature of plants?

This is for the maxi controller to understand the general characteristics or health of the plant. The temperature of a healthy plant should always be lower than the ambient temperature of the environment in which the plant lives. Water and nutrients constantly flow through the plant, keeping it cooler than the surrounding temperature. If the temperature of the plant rises to the same temperature as the surrounding temperature, then it is no longer in a healthy state and begins to wither and this leads to death. Things that contribute to this undesirable condition or environment include:

• High-intensity discharge lighting
• Improper suction or poor air passage
• Insufficient supply of water to plants

Large pressure gaps mean your plants will lose more water through stomata. Small pressure gaps mean plants hold onto their water more easily (great for clones etc.).

The Maxi control system is able to regulate the performance of your lighting according to the temperature difference between the plants and the surrounding atmosphere , ensuring that the VPD levels always sit in the correct range .

Setup is fairly simple. The camera can be plugged directly into the "infrared" socket on the Maxi controller and installed in a convenient location overlooking the plants at a 45 degree angle. The camera will cover an area equal to a distance of 1m2 . In other words, if the camera is 40cm away from a plant branch, then the area it would cover would be 40cm2!
